Green Items are Unique
The ArenaNet update says the green items are "unique" if this is literally true then green items should be extremely expensive.
Even though the bosses drop greens, they will never drop a duplicate of an existing green, right?
Quote:
* Boss monsters in the new Sorrow's Furnace regions drop newly-introduced green "unique" weapons that are named after the boss.

A quick glance around the forum will answer that for you.
Each drop their particular item. No variable stats. No differences. Notice that "unique" has quotation marks in your quotage of the update page.

That's like saying a gold 15>50 half moon 10/10 sundering +30hp Req. 9 can never be duplicated in another drop....Each is "unique" but they are the exact same thing.
There could easily be the exact same green item duplicated...

So each boss drops only the same perfect item, over and over? Or do they drop different perfect items every time?
Until two identical green items can be screenshotted together, they should be treaded as truely unique, IMHO.

Again, yes.
All the Bludgeoners, all the Yakslappers, all like green items are identical to one another.

They arent truly unique. I know at least 3 ppl that have the Yakslapper. All Yakslappers that I've seen have the same mods.

does'nt this go against ANets mission statement to make each character unique? by allowing each player to easily aquire the same weapon with the same stats over and over (and not by chance or by buying it) they are contradicting themselves.

Guild Wars is built around standardized equipment. This not a game to acquire a +5 Godly Gerbil Slaying Vorpal Sword of Thunder.

In games, one shouldn't take the definition of "unique" so literally. Many games have classifications of "unique," "rare," and again, those items aren't "unique" in the sense that there's only one, ever, in the game. They're simply tagged "unique" because they have a much lesser chance of dropping.
However, if one does wish to argue semantics, look up "unique" in the Oxford English Dictionary. Or any dictionary, for that matter. One of the meanings of "unique" is "a thing, fact, or circumstance which by reason of exceptional or special qualities stands alone and is without equal or parallel in its kind."
In that case, use of the term "unique" for a special, max item (exceptional in the fact that it possess maximum stats and is relatively rare) is neither wrong nor misleading.

Whenever someone nearby asks "whats a green?", I reply, its a "named item".
Thats certainly a much better label for it than "unique".

Yay, Aria.
Also, in case there's any doubt, green items are not "set" items. They do not combine with other green items to provide additional bonus mods. This is not Diablo II.
